Welcome to my blog. So, who am I? I am a husband, father, artist, author and follower of Jesus…I am an evangelist who founded The Light Project, a group of people passionatley commited to actively demonstrating the Christian message in a relevant way and to train others in this venture.
I have a passion to enable Christians to let all kinds of people connect with the good news of Jesus through creative initiatives such as ‘Get in the picture.’
I am an author and artist and am married to a beautiful woman called Ruth. We have three children and live near St Neots in East Anglia.
My passion to embrace and reach out to people from all walks of life started from a young age. One of the earliest photos of me is as a toddler hugging a man who was homeless. This man used to visit my Swedish Lutheran Mum and English Anglican Dad who served as missionaries in Zulu land.
I was born in South Africa but grew up in Hampshire and then Cambridgeshire. At 17 I recommitted my life to Jesus and my desire to serve the poor grew as I spent much of my free time on the streets helping people who where homeless. I also volunteered at a night shelter at St Andrews Street Baptist church in Cambridge. I studied art, drama and theology at Chester and it was in the drama studio that I met Ruth, my wife. We were baptised at Hoole Baptist Church, Chester and have been members there for 16 years, but now am part of Biggleswade Baptist Church. It was in Hoole, Chester that I had my first job as a church and community worker. This is where I set up the first outreach projects. Two of these initiatives developed extraordinarily, the annual ‘Funday on a Sunday’ was attended by 200 people on its inaugural year and each proceeding year more and more people came to experience ‘Church’.
Ten years later 12000 people from the community attended. The youth project ‘DBiz’ grew from one club which attracted 40 local un-churched teenagers to 12 different clubs with over 300 young people attending each week. During this time of serving in the local Baptist Church I gained a masters degree from Cliff College, my thesis detailed the impact friendship has for people who are part of a street culture.
I served as the Director of The Light Project for 8 years. Now I work nationally seeking to enable Baptist and all kinds of Churches to reach out to their villages, towns and cities.

I hear you are making the long trek north to CLAN again this year. I was the English lady with the tent that was smaller than her car. Some time ago Rick and I worked out that we had been to schools that were next door to each other. Those were the days when the Chester City Grammar school only took boys and the High school only girls. I was part of the very last girls only intake and Rick is old enough to have missed all the mergers of my era.
When I was barely a teenager some of the girls in the sixth form who went to Hoole Baptist Church set up a CU for the younger pupils. Years later I asked the Lord when did I really become a christian and I was reminded of the prayer in the book of bible reading notes that those girls made sure that I had. I wonder now if they knew that their efforts bore any fruit.
These days I go to a baptist church but in County Durham. Therefore CLAN is only half the distance for me than it is for you. I am hoping to be able to go up there again this summer. Now I just have to try and persaude some of the other folks from my church to come up with me.
How are you?
Hi,

I have just watched the clip you ma=de about the Big Hearted tour…..the piece you read towards the end….stunned by it. Can you tell me where this is taken from and if I can use it at all. Leading a service soon and it would be wonderful to use. The Church where I minister is on a significant journey towards missional living.
